Why study in UK
The United Kingdom is one of the most popular destinations for Indian students, home to globally ranked universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London, UCL, and the wider Russell Group. A key attraction is the shorter degree length: most undergraduate courses run three years and taught master's degrees typically take just one year, which lowers the total tuition and living cost compared with many other countries.
Teaching is research-led and widely respected by employers, with strong offerings in business, engineering, computer science and data, healthcare, law, and the creative fields. Popular study cities include London, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Coventry.
On a Student visa you can usually work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during holidays. After graduating, the Graduate Route lets most students stay to work without a job offer. Rough annual costs for Indian students:
- Tuition: broadly £11,000–£38,000/yr depending on course and level
- Living costs: higher in London than elsewhere in the UK
- An Immigration Health Surcharge is payable upfront for NHS access
Admissions are competitive but predictable, and Indian qualifications are well understood by UK admissions teams.

The Graduate Route lets you stay and work for 2 years after your degree.

Studying in UK — FAQs
6 questions
You must show tuition for your first year plus living costs of £1,529/month for London or £1,171/month outside London, for up to 9 months. The funds must sit in an eligible account for 28 consecutive days before you apply.
A one-year master's commonly costs roughly £22,000–£45,000 all-in (tuition plus living), varying widely by city and course. London and high-fee programmes like MBA or medicine sit at the top of that range.
Yes. Degree-level students can usually work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during official vacations. The limit is a strict weekly cap across all jobs and cannot be averaged.
The Graduate Route lets you stay to work or look for work without a job offer, for 2 years after a bachelor's or master's (18 months for applications from 1 January 2027) and 3 years after a PhD. You apply from inside the UK before your Student visa expires.
Business and management, computer science and data science, engineering, healthcare and life sciences, law, and finance/accounting are among the most chosen. Many students prefer one-year taught master's for faster ROI.
For the main September intake, begin 8–12 months ahead: shortlist and apply from autumn, secure your offer and CAS by spring/summer, then apply for the Student visa. A January intake follows a similar cycle roughly a term earlier.
