About University for the Creative Arts
The University for the Creative Arts is a specialist art, design and media university in the south-east of England. It counts 160 years of creative education — fine art has been taught at Farnham since 1866 — while the institution in its present form dates from the 2005 merger of the Kent Institute of Art & Design and the Surrey Institute of Art & Design, taking full university title shortly afterwards. UCA teaches across Farnham in Surrey, which is the administrative base and home to film, animation, games and crafts; Epsom, which concentrates fashion, creative business and music; and Canterbury, which holds architecture and fine art. It also runs the Maidstone TV Studios and an Institute for Creative Innovation in Xiamen, China. Its subject range covers architecture, crafts, fashion, graphic design, illustration, fine art, photography, film, media, performing arts and creative business. It reports being first among UK specialist art and design universities for world-leading research outputs in the most recent Research Excellence Framework, and second-highest ranked specialist creative university in the Guardian's 2025 table. Alumni include Tracey Emin, Karen Millen and the director Gareth Edwards. An Indian applicant should understand that admission here turns on a portfolio far more than on percentage marks, and that the experience is studio-based: small cohorts, technician-supported workshops, and access to kit rather than lecture halls. The 2026/27 international fees — £18,000 for the MArch and £18,540 to £19,050 for taught MA and MSc courses — are genuinely low for a UK creative master's. Farnham and Canterbury are small, calm towns roughly an hour from London by train, with rents well below the capital while keeping London's studios, galleries and industry contacts within reach for placements and the two-year Graduate Route job search.

Entry requirements
Typically for broadly accessible UK universities, a three-year Indian bachelor's degree from a UGC-recognised institution at around a 2:2 equivalent — commonly 50-60% or CGPA 5.5-6.5/10, though each university applies its own conversion; IELTS Academic usually 6.0-6.5 overall with no band below 5.5-6.0, so prepare towards the higher end and check whether the UKVI version is required. A three-year degree is not the obstacle for UK master's entry that it is in the US, but degree class and subject background are what move the decision, and popular programmes at these universities still ask for a 2:1. This is general guidance for the destination and varies by programme, not this university's own rule — your Vibedu counsellor confirms the exact bar free.

Living costs are an indicative national range in £, not this university's own figure. Exchange rates as of 18 Aug 2026 (30 days ago) — European Central Bank reference rates (AED via open.er-api.com), mid-market. The INR figure is converted from £ at that rate. Your bank's remittance rate will be worse than mid-market, and currencies move a percent or two a month, so use these for planning rather than as the amount you will actually pay.
