About University of South Wales
The University of South Wales is one of the largest universities in Wales, created in 2013 when the University of Glamorgan merged with the University of Wales, Newport, though its teaching lineage reaches back through decades of technical and mining education in the south Wales valleys. It is a multi-campus institution rather than a single-site one: the main Treforest campus sits above Pontypridd in the Taff valley, the neighbouring Glyntaff campus houses much of the health and care provision, the Cardiff campus concentrates the creative industries, and there is a further campus in Newport. Treforest is roughly twenty minutes by train from central Cardiff, which is how most postgraduates end up living: cheap valley accommodation with a capital city on the doorstep. USW's character is applied and vocational rather than research-elite. Its recognised strengths are nursing, midwifery and allied health, policing and criminology, computing and cyber, engineering and aviation, and the creative industries — film, animation, games design and music technology, taught with close links to the broadcast and production sector clustered in Cardiff. Courses are built around professional accreditation, work placements and industry-standard studios and labs, and teaching staff are frequently practitioners rather than career academics. For an Indian postgraduate applicant the arithmetic is the main attraction. The published international masters fee of £17,900 for most MA, MSc, MBA and LLM programmes is among the lowest of any UK university, and USW advertises scholarships of £2,000–£2,500 against that figure, so the realistic net cost is lower again. Living costs in Pontypridd and Newport are well below Cardiff, let alone London. Entry requirements are more forgiving than at research-intensive universities, intakes run in September and February, and the university operates a dedicated international office with country-specific guidance. What you trade away is research prestige and league-table position — this is a place chosen for cost, employability and a straightforward route into a UK professional qualification.

Entry requirements
Typically for broadly accessible UK universities, a three-year Indian bachelor's degree from a UGC-recognised institution at around a 2:2 equivalent — commonly 50-60% or CGPA 5.5-6.5/10, though each university applies its own conversion; IELTS Academic usually 6.0-6.5 overall with no band below 5.5-6.0, so prepare towards the higher end and check whether the UKVI version is required. A three-year degree is not the obstacle for UK master's entry that it is in the US, but degree class and subject background are what move the decision, and popular programmes at these universities still ask for a 2:1. This is general guidance for the destination and varies by programme, not this university's own rule — your Vibedu counsellor confirms the exact bar free.

Exchange rates as of 18 Aug 2026 (31 days ago) — European Central Bank reference rates (AED via open.er-api.com), mid-market. The INR figure is converted from £ at that rate. Your bank's remittance rate will be worse than mid-market, and currencies move a percent or two a month, so use these for planning rather than as the amount you will actually pay.
