About University of East London
UEL began in 1898 as the West Ham Technical Institute, with a foundation stone laid by the Victorian philanthropist John Passmore Edwards and an explicit mission to teach working-class Londoners, women and people the older universities would not admit — it was nicknamed the People's University, and the phoenix on its crest commemorates a fire it rebuilt itself after. That origin still shapes it. This is a career-facing, widely accessible institution rather than a research-elite one, and applicants should judge it on employability and location rather than on league-table position. Its two campuses are in east London: Docklands, sitting right on the Royal Albert Dock with the DLR running past it and Canary Wharf and ExCeL a few minutes away, and Stratford, next to the Olympic Park and Westfield. Strengths cluster around psychology (one of the largest psychology schools in the UK, with BPS-accredited conversion and applied routes), sport and exercise science based at the SportsDock high-performance centre, architecture — the MArch is RIBA-validated and priced separately from the rest of the postgraduate catalogue — computing, cybersecurity, construction and civil engineering, and a business school running an MBA with an optional placement year. For an Indian postgraduate the arithmetic is the real story: UEL's international postgraduate fees sit at the bottom of the London range, roughly £16,020 to £19,500 for 2026-27, against £28,000 and up at the central London universities, while you still get a London address for part-time work, internships and the Graduate Route. UEL also stacks discounts — a 5 per cent early-payment reduction, alumni and progression discounts, and scholarships from £500 to £5,000.

Entry requirements
Typically for broadly accessible UK universities, a three-year Indian bachelor's degree from a UGC-recognised institution at around a 2:2 equivalent — commonly 50-60% or CGPA 5.5-6.5/10, though each university applies its own conversion; IELTS Academic usually 6.0-6.5 overall with no band below 5.5-6.0, so prepare towards the higher end and check whether the UKVI version is required. A three-year degree is not the obstacle for UK master's entry that it is in the US, but degree class and subject background are what move the decision, and popular programmes at these universities still ask for a 2:1. This is general guidance for the destination and varies by programme, not this university's own rule — your Vibedu counsellor confirms the exact bar free.

Living costs are an indicative national range in £, not this university's own figure. Exchange rates as of 18 Aug 2026 (30 days ago) — European Central Bank reference rates (AED via open.er-api.com), mid-market. The INR figure is converted from £ at that rate. Your bank's remittance rate will be worse than mid-market, and currencies move a percent or two a month, so use these for planning rather than as the amount you will actually pay.
