About University of Surrey
Surrey received its charter in 1966, but it began life in 1891 as Battersea Polytechnic Institute in south London and moved to Guildford in the late 1960s. The main Stag Hill campus rises on a slope beneath Guildford Cathedral, with the newer Manor Park site and the Surrey Research Park adjoining it — the research park is the point, because Surrey has always been a university that runs on industrial partnership rather than cloistered scholarship. Several of its departments are genuinely world-class. The 5G/6G Innovation Centre is one of the largest academic telecommunications research facilities anywhere and works directly with the global network operators and handset makers. The Surrey Space Centre spun out Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd and effectively invented the modern small-satellite industry. The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management is consistently ranked in the world's top handful for the subject. Electronic engineering, computer vision and AI, nutrition and food science, veterinary medicine, sleep and circadian research, and psychology all carry weight. Surrey is also unusual in embedding a Professional Training placement year into much of its provision, and its graduate employment figures reflect that. Guildford is a prosperous market town in the Surrey Hills, about thirty-five minutes by train from London Waterloo and close to Heathrow. It is safe, green and pleasant, and it is expensive — rents are closer to London's than to a northern city's, and an Indian applicant should budget accommodation carefully rather than assuming a provincial cost base. Fees are correspondingly high and vary sharply by subject: for 2027 entry the published overseas full-time postgraduate taught fees run from £17,700 for the AI conversion MSc up to £29,100 for the Artificial Intelligence MSc, with the MBA at £29,000 and most engineering and computing masters at £26,900. Surrey attracts a large Indian cohort, particularly into computing, AI, telecommunications and hospitality management, and the campus has an active Indian society and substantial on-campus accommodation.

Entry requirements
Typically for UK universities in this band, a three-year Indian bachelor's degree is accepted for master's entry, usually at a 2:1 equivalent — commonly 60-70%, or CGPA 6.5-7.5/10, with the higher end normally asked of graduates from less selective Indian institutions, and some courses in this band accepting a 2:2 (around 55-60%). English is typically IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each band, though some subjects ask for 7.0 or a higher per-band score. Exchange rates as of 18 Aug 2026 (30 days ago) — European Central Bank reference rates (AED via open.er-api.com), mid-market. The INR figure is converted from £ at that rate. Your bank's remittance rate will be worse than mid-market, and currencies move a percent or two a month, so use these for planning rather than as the amount you will actually pay.
