dMAT results: a score out of 200 and a percentile

How the score works

• The dMAT score converts your correct answers onto a scale from 0 to 200, with an average of 100. It is shown separately for the core module and the subject module.
• The percentile rank says what share of participants scored the same or lower — a rank of 70 means 70% did the same or worse and 30% did better.
• The total is the two module scores added together.
• Because the dMAT is standardised, both numbers always refer to everyone who sat it, at every test centre and on every date.

There is no percentage here and no pass mark. "I got 70%" means nothing on this test — it is a position relative to the cohort, not a proportion of marks.

What universities do with it

Universities decide individually how to use dMAT results, and the percentile is what makes selection possible: a programme can decide to look at the top 10% of applicants, and the percentile identifies them.

At present the dMAT is used as a selection criterion by RWTH Aachen (for the MSc Battery Science and Technology in Engineering, with subject modules in chemistry, physics, computer science, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering) and by Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (for the MSc Data Science). For everybody else on the APS route, the result's job is to exist so the APS certificate can be issued.

That distinction matters for how hard you prepare. If your programme does not use the dMAT for selection, a mid-range score is not a problem. If it does, the percentile is what it will read.

When results arrive

• For the first Indian administration, the test ran on 26 September 2026 with certificates published on 12 October 2026 — about a fortnight.
• The certificate is downloadable from the g.a.s.t. participant portal.
• It must be enclosed with your APS application documents, and the result is referenced on the APS certificate.
• APS India then checks the result against what g.a.s.t. holds before issuing your APS certificate.

The certificate never expires

Unlike a language test, the dMAT has no validity window. Once issued it is valid indefinitely, so sitting it earlier than you strictly need carries no risk — and given it gates the APS, which gates the application, earlier is the right instinct.
