dMAT syllabus: there is none, and that is the difficulty
g.a.s.t. states it directly: the dMAT requires developed transfer and application skills rather than memorised factual knowledge. There is no syllabus, no chemistry to revise and no formula sheet. That is harder than it sounds, because there is nothing to finish and therefore no way to feel prepared.
Use the official material, because it is the only official material
g.a.s.t. publishes preparation material, sample tasks, solutions and short videos showing exactly how each part behaves on screen — an introductory video plus one each for Figure Sequences, Mathematical Equations, Latin Squares and the subject module.
g.a.s.t. also states plainly that no further detail will be shown to you during the exam. Work through all of it: on a timed digital test, knowing where the buttons are is worth marks.
Train three habits, not a subject
- Name the rule before choosing. On sequences, on grids, on arguments. Write the rule in words, predict the answer, then look at the options.
- Eliminate on a proved contradiction rather than selecting on a feeling. With single-choice items, crossing out two you can disprove is faster and safer than hunting for the one that fits.
- Work from the tightest constraint first. It is what turns a hard Latin Square into a short one, and it is the same instinct that solves a data question.
You can practise all three on anything. Sudoku and logic grids train the third. Any reasoning-style verbal material trains the second. Figure-sequence practice from any source trains the first, because the dimensions that change are the same everywhere.
Practise the length, which nobody does
Three and a half hours with a break is a stamina event. The hardest part of this exam is being sharp in hour three, and you cannot discover that for the first time on the day.
Two full-length sittings before your date are worth more than another fifty loose questions.
Do not buy a syllabus that does not exist
- There is no chemistry, physics or biology to revise for the General Academic Module.
- There is no formula sheet to memorise.
- There are no past papers; the test is new.
- Anyone selling you a dMAT syllabus is selling you something that does not exist — and quite possibly material for a different exam entirely, given how much confusion surrounds the name.
