How to book PTE in India, step by step

The booking steps

1. Create a free myPTE account on the official Pearson PTE site. The same account holds your preparation material and later your Score Report.
2. Choose your test — PTE Academic, Academic UKVI, Core, or a Home test. Check the requirement for your university or visa route first.
3. Enter your details exactly as they appear on your passport. A mismatch is discovered at the door on test day.
4. Pick a test centre and a slot from live availability — 57 centres across India.
5. Pay with a card, or with a voucher if you hold one, and apply any valid promotional code at this point.
6. Confirm. You receive the booking by email and in your myPTE account.

What to have ready before you start

• A valid passport, with the name spelled exactly as you will enter it.
• The requirement you are testing against — the overall score, and any section minimums.
• A payment card that works for international transactions.
• Two or three acceptable dates, because your first choice of centre may be full.

On test day

• Arrive early — check-in involves identity verification, a photograph and a palm scan.
• Bring the original passport you booked with. No other ID is accepted in India.
• Personal items go in a locker; you are given an erasable notebook and pen for notes.
• The test runs about two hours in one sitting, with an optional break before the Listening part.

Everything is recorded at your computer, including Speaking. There is no examiner in the room, which is why a nearby candidate talking is normal and not a problem — your microphone is directional and the scoring accounts for it.

Changing or cancelling

Reschedules and cancellations are handled in your myPTE account and are charged on a sliding scale that depends on how much notice you give — full details are in Pearson's policy centre, and they are worth reading before you book rather than after you need them. As a rule, changes made well ahead of the date cost less than changes made close to it, and a no-show refunds nothing.
