How to register for the GMAT in India
GMAC describes GMAT registration as four steps, and it genuinely is that short. The things worth getting right before you start are which delivery mode you want, since they are priced differently, and whether your ID matches your profile exactly.
The four steps
- Create an mba.com account with your basic information.
- Choose online or test centre. From your My Account page, click Register and pick the delivery mode — US$300 online, US$275 at a centre.
- Complete your profile with the personal details registration requires.
- Schedule the exam — test centre if applicable, appointment date and time — and submit payment.

If you choose online, read GMAC's system and environment requirements before booking rather than the night before. A failed equipment check on test day is not a reschedule, it is a forfeited fee.
Identification
GMAC publishes ID requirements separately and they are strict, because the GMAT is used for admission decisions worth a great deal of money. In India, plan on a valid passport, and make sure the name in your mba.com profile matches it exactly — including the order of given and family names.
The deadlines that cost money
- 24 hours — inside this window you cannot reschedule or cancel at all, and a no-show forfeits the entire fee.
- 14 days — rescheduling inside this costs US$165 at a centre or US$180 online.
- 60 days — rescheduling more than 60 days out is the cheap tier at US$55 or US$60.
- 16 days — the minimum gap before you may sit the GMAT again.
Before you pay
- You have sat at least one full-length official practice exam, so the date is chosen against evidence rather than optimism.
- Your section order is decided and practised.
- The date leaves room for a 16-day-later retake before your first application deadline.
- Your name matches your ID exactly.
