PTE exam dates: why there is almost always one this week
PTE does not run on a published calendar of fixed dates the way IELTS does. Pearson schedules frequent sittings with last-minute availability across its 57 Indian centres, so the practical answer to "when is the next PTE" is usually "this week, if a seat is free".
How PTE scheduling works
- Dates are frequent rather than fixed — centres run multiple sittings a week, and often more than one a day.
- Last-minute slots are normal. Pearson advertises availability at short notice, which is the reason many students switch to PTE when a deadline moves.
- Everything is in one sitting of about two hours, so there is no second appointment to co-ordinate.
- Availability is per centre, so a busy city can be full while a centre an hour away is open.
This is the biggest practical difference from IELTS, where Speaking may be scheduled on a different day from the rest and you do not choose when.
How far ahead to book
Because results typically arrive in two days, the wait after the test barely features in your planning — which is unusual, and worth using.
- Find the deadline and the English requirement on the programme's own page.
- Allow two days for results, plus a day for anything the university needs.
- Leave room for one retake — a full test, bookable as soon as your scores arrive.
- Book three to four weeks out if you can, and check availability before you commit to a week.
A student who discovers on the 1st that they need a score by the 20th can realistically sit PTE, get a result, retake if needed and still make it. That is not true of every English test.
Where you can sit it
There are 57 PTE test centres across India, including Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Mumbai and New Delhi, and more than 500 worldwide. Because the test is fully computer-delivered, the centre makes no difference to the experience — only to your travel.
