How to register for the GRE in India

The steps

1. Create an ETS account. It holds your booking, your scores and your score reports.
2. Enter your name exactly as it appears on your passport, in the same order. A mismatch is discovered at check-in.
3. Choose test centre or at home, then a date and time from live availability.
4. Pay US$249 / INR 25,522, or apply a Fee Reduction voucher if you hold one.
5. On test day, choose your four free score recipients before you leave the centre.

Identification

In India the passport is the identification ETS accepts for the GRE. Bring the original, valid and unexpired, and make sure the name on it matches your registration exactly — including the order of given and family names, which is where Indian names most often diverge from a database record.

Choosing your four free reports

Your fee includes four score reports, chosen on test day. After that each one costs US$40 / INR 4,150 — by far the most expensive score reporting of any test on this site.

• Decide your four before the test, while you can think clearly.
• Use ScoreSelect to decide what those four see: your most recent scores, or all of them.
• If you are unsure of your shortlist, remember that five-year validity means you can send later — but you will pay for it.

Changing your plans

• Rescheduling costs US$55 / INR 5,650.
• Changing your test centre costs the same.
• Score reinstatement, if you cancelled scores and want them back, costs US$50 / INR 5,000.
