Partial scholarships for studying abroad
Partial awards are where most funded students actually are. They are less competitive, more numerous, and they change your position in two ways people underestimate: they can often be combined, and they reduce what you must borrow.

They stack, within limits
- A university award and an external award can frequently be held together.
- Two awards from the same university usually cannot.
- Some awards reduce if you hold another — the terms will say, and they are easy to miss.
- An Indian trust award and a destination university award are typically compatible.
Two 25% awards fund half your tuition, which is a materially different financial plan from none — and far more achievable than a single full award.
What a partial award changes
- Your loan. A smaller loan means a smaller EMI for fifteen years, which is worth more than the headline amount suggests.
- Your visa evidence. Several routes reduce the funds you must show by the award amount.
- Your margin money. Many lenders allow a scholarship to count towards the share you must fund yourself.
Tell your lender about the award. It can reduce the loan, the margin money requirement, or both — and it is not something they find out on their own.
