Fully funded scholarships to study abroad
"Fully funded" is not a defined term, and what it covers varies more than applicants expect. Before you plan around one, the question worth asking is not whether it is full but which costs it actually meets.

What "full" usually covers, and what it often does not
| Cost | Usually covered? |
|---|---|
| Tuition | Yes — this is the core of nearly every full award |
| Living stipend | Often, at a defined monthly rate |
| Flights | Sometimes, often one return journey |
| Visa fee and health surcharge | Sometimes, and frequently not |
| Dependants | Rarely |
| The visa financial requirement | Not a cost, but an award may reduce what you must show |
The gap between a generous stipend and the actual cost of a city like London is real, and several fully funded students work within the hours their visa permits for exactly that reason.
Before you rely on one
- Read the award terms for what is excluded rather than what is included.
- Check whether the stipend is paid before or after you arrive — the first month is the hardest.
- Check whether it reduces your visa financial requirement, and get that in writing.
- Have a second plan. These awards are won by a small minority of strong applicants.

It is not a defined term. Most full awards cover tuition and a living stipend; flights, visa costs and dependants vary considerably.
Usually within your visa's permitted hours, unless the award itself restricts it. Check both.
