Specified tightly for India: you must hold an Indian passport and be a permanent resident of India, hold an undergraduate degree, and meet the English language requirement of the UK university you are applying to. It funds one-year taught postgraduate courses only, so research degrees and longer programmes are out. The British Council also treats commitment to the scheme as a condition rather than a courtesy — scholars are expected to attend networking events and stay in contact afterwards.
