Dubai student visa documents checklist

The documents a Dubai student visa application needs, taken from the official guidance. The list is the easy part; the three rules underneath it are what applications actually fail on.

At a glance

VisaStudent residence permit (UAE) — issued in Dubai under the GDRFA-Dubai service "Issuing a residency permit to a student", and federally under ICP's "Issuing Residency Permit" (student category). It is always preceded by an entry permit filed by the sponsoring university. There is no separate "student visa" applied for at a UAE embassy in India — the accredited university/college acts as host and sponsor (a UAE-resident parent may sponsor instead).

The checklist

  • Passport valid for not less than 6 months (ICP condition; GDRFA's study/training visit visa service states a minimum 6-month validity)
  • Recent coloured personal photograph with a white background (GDRFA required-documents list)
  • Acceptance/enrolment letter from the university, college or research institution confirming the applicant is enrolled and specifying the academic or training programme and its duration (ICP)
  • Certificate issued by the university or institute specifying the duration of the study (u.ae)
  • Evidence that the institution is licensed and approved by the Ministry of Education or the competent emirate-level education authority (GDRFA condition)
  • Medical fitness certificate from a UAE-approved centre — GDRFA lists a medical examination approved by the concerned authorities among required documents
  • Valid UAE health insurance (ICP condition; mandatory in Dubai under Dubai Health Insurance Law No. 11 of 2013)
  • Emirates ID application receipt following biometric registration (listed by GDRFA as the 'ID receipt')
  • Copy of the entry permit issued by GDRFA-Dubai or ICP before travel
  • Attested Indian academic certificates — Class X and XII marksheets and, for postgraduate applicants, the bachelor's degree and transcripts, attested through the India chain and MOFAIC in the UAE
  • Proof of tuition fee/deposit payment to the sponsoring institution (a university requirement, not a published government one)
  • Bank statements or a sponsor's financial evidence where the university's own admission rules ask for them — the UAE authorities do not publish a fixed amount

The three rules that decide a document

  1. Consistency. Your name, date of birth and parents' names must match across passport, certificates and bank papers. A single spelling difference needs an affidavit and weeks.
  2. Translation and certification. Anything not in the accepted language usually needs a certified translation, and "certified" has a specific meaning that varies by country.
  3. Currency. Bank statements, medicals and police clearances all expire. A document valid when you gathered it may not be when you submit.

Assembling the file

  • Start with the documents you do not control — transcripts from an old university, police clearances, attestations.
  • Scan everything at the required resolution before you need it.
  • Keep originals together; several routes ask to see them at biometrics or interview.
  • Make one list of what has an expiry and when, and check it the week you submit.

The most common avoidable refusal in every route is a document that was not asked for being missing — people read the list as exhaustive. It is a minimum; an officer may ask for anything that supports your case.

The official checklist is set out above. Treat it as the minimum rather than the complete set — an officer may ask for anything that supports your application.

Anything not in an accepted language generally needs a certified translation. What counts as certified differs by country, so check the official source linked below.
