About this programme

Are you interested in understanding how animal behavior, sensory performance, and consciousness emerge from the neural activity of the brain across scales, from cells to circuits? Or how do the complex regulatory networks of organisms work? These topics are essential for understanding both the neural basis and health of living organisms as well as the mechanistic origin of various pathological states. The Master’s Programme in Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary programme providing two complementary study tracks: Neuroscience and Molecular and Physiological Basis of Health. This versatile programme allows you to direct your studies into areas that fascinate you the most.   Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary field focused on studying the brain and nervous system across various levels. Neuroscientists aim to understand, for example, the functional roles of a specific nerve cell population or molecule in brain function, the adaptive dynamics of the brain, or the neurobiological bases of behavior. Their research may seek to develop treatments for neurological disorders and sensory deficits, or to explore the origin of neural cells, or extend beyond the blood-brain barrier, examining the interactions between neural cells and infiltrating immune cells.    The Molecular and Physiological Basis of Health (MAP-Health) study track is taught in collaboration with the Master’s Programme of Genetics and Molecular Biosciences and is available to students from both Master’s Programmes. In this study track, you will explore how molecules, cells, and entire physiological systems work together, and how they have evolved and adapted across species and environments. You will gain expertise in modern analytical and omics technologies, acquiring the analytical skills to understand health as a dynamic and evolving state. From development and aging to environmental stressors, the curriculum emphasizes how physiological systems in humans and other species respond and adapt to internal and external challenges. MAP-Health will give you a strong foundation in both molecular biosciences and integrative physiology, and the tools and knowledge required to make contributions to the future of health and biomedical science.Further information about the studies on the programme website.
