The Master’s Programme in Economics is a good fit for students who are interested in analyzing economic phenomena, particularly from a societal perspective, and who are comfortable with a mathematical approach to economics. The programme has a strong quantitative orientation, so successful completion requires a solid foundation in mathematics and statistics.    The programme offers two study tracks. The Research track is more demanding, providing deeper knowledge of economic theory and econometric methods than the General track. It is particularly well suited for students planning to pursue doctoral studies in economics. The degree requirements in both tracks correspond to international standards, supporting your career prospects and further study opportunities in Finland and abroad.    This programme prepares you for a career as an economist in business, financial markets, or the public sector. It provides in-depth knowledge of economic theory and introduces you to the relevant scientific literature. A strong emphasis is placed on applying economic theory and econometric methods to practical problems, as well as interpreting economic phenomena and empirical data. Upon completing the programme, you will earn the degree of Master of Social Sciences, having demonstrated a range of skills essential for your future career:    The ability to communicate conclusions clearly and evaluate the significance of the underlying assumptions Fluency in discussing economic issues with diverse domestic and international audiencesReadiness to reflect on and develop your own professional performance  Familiarity with key sources of economic information and the ability to adopt new tools for economic analysis    Teaching in the programme is partly conducted in collaboration with the economics departments of Aalto University and Hanken School of Economics. Together with the Discipline of Economics at the University of Helsinki, these institutions form the Helsinki Graduate School of Economics (Helsinki GSE).
