Ecology, Evolution and Biodiversity Conservation

Are you interested in how species and populations respond and adapt to the changing world? Do you wonder how the biodiversity around us has evolved and how it is maintained? How do new adaptations and even new species evolve? Or do you want to influence how conservation strategies are prioritised in future? The Master's Programme in Ecology, Evolution and Biodiversity conservation (EEB) is all this.  EEB offers a diverse and multidisciplinary perspective on biology, from genes to populations and species, and from individuals to communities and overall biodiversity. The programme offers three thematic areas: ecology, evolutionary biology and biodiversity conservation. You can choose to follow studies suggested in these areas or combine them to best fit your own interests. You can also complement your studies with courses from related master's degree programmes.  Diverse teaching methods include classroom and online lectures, interactive seminars, student-led learning, laboratory and computer training, excursions, and field courses, all designed to deepen learning. Your studies are supported by the broad expertise of our faculty – globally renowned scientists in the fields of EEB. Students also have access to the Molecular Ecology and Systematics laboratory and three biological stations of the University of Helsinki – the terrestrial station Kilpisjärvi in the subarctic, the terrestrial and aquatic station  Lammi in the boreal zone as well as the marine station  Tvärminne in the hemiboreal zone. Further information about the studies on the programme website.
