About this programme

The Helsinki Liberal Arts and Sciences programme joins diverse fields of knowledge, leveraging three strengths of the University of Helsinki: research-based teaching, high quality, and breadth. By integrating natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities, you’ll develop skills in contextualisation, analysis, problem-solving and critical thinking. These meta-skills enable you to analyse new situations, relate them to your existing knowledge and identify what you need to learn to address the issues you face. Besides gaining these critical analytical skills shown by research to be valued by employers, you’ll also graduate from the programme with a particular (inter)disciplinary expert profile that will allow you to take on jobs or continue on to diverse master’s programmes across the University of Helsinki and beyond in disciplines across the humanities, data science, social sciences, life sciences and agricultural, environmental and forest sciences.  You don't need to know your exact career path at the start. The programme structure allows you to explore various disciplines but also ensures graduating with a coherent expert profile. The specialisation options include Data science, Digital humanities, Ecology and Adaptation, Economics of Natural Resources, Resource Management of Global Forests and Social Data Science. Further information about the studies are on the bachelor’s programme website.
