About this programme

The goal of the university programme is to provide students with a subject-specific education in academic, personal, and social terms. The Master’s programme builds upon the foundational knowledge and specialisations gained in a prior Bachelor’s programme, enabling students to acquire an in-depth academic education in mechanical engineering with a specialisation in Energy and Process Engineering. Students are actively involved in research throughout the programme. Furthermore, through elements such as the internship conducted alongside the programme and the Master’s thesis with colloquium, key competencies — including communication and teamwork skills, presentation and public speaking abilities, and project management—as well as the ability to utilise modern information technologies, are further developed. Within the specialisation modules, students are integrated into engineering research. Through the colloquium at the conclusion of the Master’s thesis, students consolidate their ability to present engineering projects at the Master’s level. The programme prepares students for career paths that require advanced qualifications as mechanical engineers. It aims to train both professionals in leadership roles within the development and research departments of commercial enterprises and the next generation of scientists, as it generally opens the door to pursuing a doctorate in engineering upon completion of the Master’s programme. First, second, and third semesters: postgraduate courses in Advanced Fluid Dynamics, Advanced Thermodynamics, and Signal Processing with the corresponding laboratories, as well as more than 18 elective modules are available so that each student can individually enhance their skills and knowledge. Fourth semester: Master's thesis in one of the active research groups of the department. Grades and credit points are based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).
