The course is built around two strands, programming and artificial intelligence, alongside project management and research methods. Students develop event-driven programming and applied AI skills through hands-on projects, with guest lectures from industry practitioners. Entry normally requires a first degree at 2:2 minimum in a related discipline such as computer science, computing, IT, data science, AI, computer forensics or digital forensics, or relevant experience and equivalent qualifications. Teesside's international fees page (https://www.tees.ac.uk/sections/international/fees.cfm) states that 'for the 2026-27 academic year you must pay a deposit of £4,000 before receiving your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)'. The same page states the deposit is refunded if your visa is refused but retained by the university if the visa is issued — that is a £4,000 outlay payable before you know the visa outcome, which matters a great deal on a tight family budget. Course length depends on start point: January runs 16 months including a summer break, while May and September run 12 months.
