About this programme

The Master's degree programme in "Sustainable Mining and Remediation Management" provides students with knowledge and skills for independent scientific work in the fields of sustainable mining, mine rehabilitation and revitalisation. Their scientific skills should enable them to take on management responsibility. The degree programme is based on Germany's globally unique expertise in mining remediation, particularly for uranium, lignite and ore mining. It was created as a concept for a unique, research-oriented degree programme. It combines natural sciences, engineering and economics as well as environmental law and georesource management. In the first and second semesters, the following compulsory modules are part of the programme: Project and Contract Management Management and Finance of Mining Along the Life Cycle Groundwater Chemistry for Groundwater Management – Basics Hydrogeology for Groundwater Management – Basics Introduction to Biohydrometallurgy Environmental Geotechnics Reclamation Radioactivity Problem-Based Learning on Licensing, Expectation and Stakeholder Management Students must choose 12 ECTS as electives from the following modules: German language courses Mine Water I Mine Water II Geomodelling – Geostatistics for Natural Resource Modelling European Values and Culture Responsible Consumption Biotechnology in Mining Practical training Furthermore, students have to choose 6 ECTS from free-elective modules. The third semester is dedicated to the Master's thesis with a Master's seminar (to total 24 ECTS).
