Schengen Student Visa Fee Vibedu CounsellingBook Free Counselling

Schengen student visa fee

What a Schengen student visa costs, taken from the government's own published fee page. The application fee is rarely the whole cost, so the charges that sit beside it are set out below as well.

At a glance

VisaThere is no single "Europe" student visa. For courses longer than 90 days you apply for the destination country's own national long-stay "D" visa / student residence permit, issued under EU Directive (EU) 2016/801 (conditions of entry and residence for study). Examples of the official route names: Germany — nationales Visum zu Studienzwecken (national D visa, §16b Residence Act); France — VLS-TS "étudiant" (long-stay visa valid as residence permit); Netherlands — MVV entry visa + study residence permit, applied for by your university at the IND; Ireland (EU but not Schengen) — Long Stay "D" Study Visa, registered as Stamp 2.

The fee, as published

Set nationally, not EU-wide. As published: Germany national (D) visa EUR 75 (under 18: EUR 37.50) — germany.info/auswaertiges-amt.de. France long-stay student visa EUR 50 as published by Campus France, plus a residence-permit validation payment on arrival that service-public.gouv.fr publishes as EUR 150 for VLS-TS validation. Netherlands study residence permit EUR 254.00 as published on ind.nl (fees change every 1 January). Ireland long-stay study visa EUR 60 single-entry / EUR 100 multi-entry as published by Irish Immigration Service Delivery. Indian applicants to Germany additionally pay the APS India verification fee (amount as published at aps-india.de). Always re-check the destination consulate's current tariff before paying.

What the application fee does not cover

Almost every student visa route has costs beyond the application fee itself, and they are a material part of the budget rather than a rounding error.

  • Health surcharge or insurance, which several countries require up front for the whole course length.
  • Biometrics, where it is charged separately from the application.
  • Document costs — attestation, notarisation, certified translations, courier.
  • The financial requirement itself, which is money you must hold rather than spend, and is usually the largest number in the process.
  • Dependant applications, each charged separately.

Before you budget from this page

  1. Check the date this page was last verified, printed at the foot.
  2. Open the official source linked there and confirm the current figure.
  3. Check whether your route — the specific visa subclass or category — carries the same fee.
  4. Add the surrounding costs above before deciding what the visa stage will cost you.

Visa fees are revised on government timetables rather than annual ones, and a figure that was right last quarter can be wrong this one. The date at the foot of this page is the honest limit of what we can tell you.

Fees — FAQs

2 questions

Application fees are generally not refunded on refusal. That is the usual position across student visa routes, and it is why getting the application right the first time matters more than the fee itself.

Yes, these fees are paid online during the application in nearly every route. Budget for the exchange rate and card charges on the day.
