Master of Information Technology

The Master of Information Technology at Waikato combines theoretical foundations with supervised project-based learning and hands-on experience with an industry partner. A defining feature is a semester-long internship in which students work on real-world projects under joint academic and industry mentorship. It was developed through the Auckland ICT Graduate School partnership between Waikato and the University of Auckland and aims to produce work-ready ICT professionals. Students may specialise in Geographic Information Systems alongside their core studies. Teaching is based at the Hamilton campus, with the internship sometimes taken in Tauranga. What the fee covers: the international 2026 estimated fee for 120 points, which is one full-time year. Fee year: 2026. English requirement as published: the IELTS line is printed on the programme page; the other tests come from Waikato's published postgraduate table. Before you budget: which figure applies depends on the route you are placed on, and the difference is large. Waikato's '2026 Estimated Fees' table gives three figures for this qualification: NZ$46,200 for 120 points, NZ$69,300 for 180 points and NZ$92,400 for 240 points, with 2027 estimates of NZ$48,510, NZ$72,765 and NZ$97,020. The points load depends on your prior qualification — with a three-year Indian bachelor's you may be placed on a longer route — so the total can vary by up to a factor of two. Do not treat NZ$46,200 as the price of the degree until you know which route you qualify for.
