About this programme

The Master of Science in Sports, Exercise and Human Performance represents a highly specialised Master's degree programme focussing on research. In particular, the programme is characterised by its alignment on scientific methods as well as its strong direction into internationally used standards and the imparting of field-typical "soft skills" without implicating any sport-specific practices. The programme aims to enable students to work in research-based occupational areas and to make decisions in generating knowledge, diagnostics, planning and evaluating independently. The students should achieve profession-specific competences in leadership and communication skills, giving them the skills they need to be placed in leading and decisive staff positions. The Master's degree programme is a graduate course of study in which students earn 120 ECTS credit points. It is designed for undergraduate students who achieved skills in natural and behavioural sciences, including medical aspects of sports and human movement. Elementary methodological knowledge and capabilities in experimental and field research are necessary. The course is organised into four semesters. In the first two semesters, the three main parts, sport psychology, human movement science, training and performance sciences as well as statistics, methods and market skills are mandatory fields. They are all covered by theoretical courses and courses for practical application. From the third semester on, students are free to choose a topic of specialisation and explore this topic in depth. Research projects as well as international internships in different fields are highly connected with each other and can be chosen individually. Each cohort consists of no more than 20 students.
