Management Information Systems (MIS)

Who is addressed: As a consecutive study programme, the Master's degree programme in Management Information Systems follows a completed Bachelor's degree (or comparable first degree) in one of the following subjects: Management Information Systems Information Systems and Management Computer Science Business Studies Economics Digital Media Management and Engineering (or similar) What to expect: The study programme is interdisciplinary and internationally oriented. On the one hand, it is to be understood as a business studies/organisational theory orientation of computer science; at the same time, students with a business studies background gain further competencies in the field of computer science. The language of instruction is English. What to achieve: With the completion of the Master's programme, students can enter a profession directly or deepen their business informatics knowledge within a doctoral programme. How to get there: The digital transformation entails lasting changes for organisations in business, administration, education and society. The MIS Master's programme educates students to take an active role in managing and shaping these changes. Therefore, the study programme goes beyond the technical focus of business informatics and combines technical expertise with management competence. It is designed to enable graduates to take on a mediating role in the digital transformation of business, administration, education, and society. In particular, they should understand the management challenges that arise in the design and implementation of digital technologies for or in the aforementioned areas. In addition to the Master's Thesis and a General Studies area, the programme is divided into three study sections: "Management Information Systems" (MIS) The MIS study section consists of four compulsory modules. Students acquire the theoretical concepts and methodological tools fundamental to MIS. These include various theoretical foundations on the fields of information systems and organisation studies, qualitative and quantitative methods for the study of information systems and transformation processes in the context of organisations, and a transfer module on the professional and academic practice of information systems research. "Managing Digital Innovation" (MDI) The MDI study section consists of three compulsory modules. Students deal with the business implications of digital technologies. They learn basic theoretical principles from the fields of organisational and information systems research, build on these to deepen their business management skills, and link these to issues of digital innovation. "Computer Science" (INF) The INF study section consists of three compulsory modules. Students are particularly concerned with researching the organisational transformation processes initiated by digitalisation. They get to know strategic and operative processes of IT service management, deal with data-based decision-making processes and take further courses from the Master's programme in computer science in order to sharpen their informatics profile.
