About this programme

The Applied Geosciences Master's programme imparts in-depth knowledge in applied geosciences and enables students to independently work on complex tasks related to terrestrial topics. Elective modules can be used to compile an individual study profile in the fields of engineering geology and hydrology, applied sedimentology, and geophysics as well as on topics such as geohazards, renewable energies, and glaciology. The existing methodological knowledge is supplemented and expanded by freely selectable competence modules. The study programme MSc Applied Geosciences at the University of Bremen offers its students the following: to study in a friendly, collaborative culture that is committed to the education and training of its graduate students to work with leading institutions for applied geosciences, like the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems, the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research, and the Bremen State Geological Office The Applied Geosciences Master's programme will deepen your specific knowledge, methods, and abilities in applied geosciences. The focus is laid on terrestrial-related contents mediated in a method-oriented manner, which allows our graduates to practice and work in a wide range of application fields. A specialisation is possible both in the applied and in the research-oriented areas of geosciences. The interdisciplinarity in geosciences is reflected in a wide range of elective courses and numerous combinations. Compulsory module, first year: Advanced Mapping Course (6 CP) Elective modules, first year: Choose one or three out of three modules related to professional and interdisciplinary competences: Advanced Digital Competences (6 CP) Field and lab practice (6 CP) Complementary Competences (6 CP), e.g. Economics, Languages, Law Choose three or four out of the following core subjects: Hydrogeology (2 modules, 12 CP) Engineering geology (2 modules, 12 CP) Applied Sedimentology (2 Module, 12 CP) Applied Petrology (2 modules, 12 CP) Applied Geophysics (2 modules, 12 CP) Renewable Energy Resources (2 modules, 12 CP) Glaciology (2 modules, 12 CP) Geohazards (2 modules, 12 CP) Possibility to take classes from other Master's programmes It is possible to replace one core subject with a subject from the Marine Geosciences Master's programme or choose 12 CP from the Master's programmes Environmental Physics or Environmental History. Mandatory modules, second year: Geoscientific project exercise (15 CP) Geoscientific research seminar (15 CP) Master's thesis (30 CP) PDF Download
