About this programme
The research and practice-oriented, quantitative Master's degree course of study in “International Taxation and Public Finance / Internationale Besteuerung und Finanzwissenschaft” provides students with knowledge of national and international tax law, corporate taxation and finance, thus combining business and economics topics. Students are introduced to scientific economic methods and the evaluation and analysis of data (econometrics) at an advanced level. A basic knowledge of this should be available. The focus is on acquiring advanced knowledge in order to deal with and analyse tax and fiscal issues and problems in companies as well as private and government organisations. The course combines well-founded and practical knowledge in the field of tax law and tax theory with advanced scientific methods in the field of microeconomics and data analysis. Teaching takes place in English and German and can also be studied entirely in English with limited elective options. Look forward to a varied range of courses, which will be supplemented by practical lectures in collaboration with several private partners and companies. German skills may apply. Details at a Glance The programme includes three compulsory modules with 15 credit points taking place in the first semester. Mandatory modules on an advanced level include Econometrics, International Taxation, and Public Economics. After mastering the compulsory studies, students may specialise by completing a range of compulsory elective courses. At the same time students will be academically prepared for writing a research-orientated Master's thesis by either completing two seminars, or a seminar and a scientific project. The final Master's thesis must be proceeded at the school, and defended with a final presentation. In addition to subject-related courses, there are special courses in which interdisciplinary and personal key skills are acquired. Students can receive credit for voluntary work as part of the "CoMeT - Competencies and Methods Training" for voluntary work. You can find the courses in specialisation and supplements in the module handbook. Students should expect a weekly workload of approx. 20 hours of classroom studies and at least 20 hours of independent studies. Classroom studies include lectures to learn new concepts, tutorials to foster discussions and practice techniques, and seminars to apply theories and methods to an assigned project. Students must be able to work independently at an academic, research-orientated level. Our school primarily offers in-person classes. However, depending on the lecture format of the professor, some online modules may be offered. On-campus presence is required for a successful study programme. PDF Download
