About this programme

Separate applications are usually organized for applicants who have previously completed studies at, for example, an open university of applied sciences, another university or a certain secondary education institution, or previous work experience in a certain field.Special features of the Hospitality Management and Service Design degree programme: •    Learn about the current and future field of Hospitality Management by developing services with businesses and by implementing Service Design and Futures Thinking•    International study visits and intensive studies•    Networking with the on campus restaurant BarLaurea and other development hubs and businessesGraduates will have a broad understanding of the hospitality industry.  They will gain practical knowledge of all the basic functions in the hospitality field. Graduates will have acquired essential skills in teamwork, communication and project work. They will be practically oriented and able to work as developers of services in different organizations and companies as experts and managers. They will have insight into customer behavior, and they work in a customer-centered way.The international hospitality and service field is a dynamic and fast-growing sector that needs people with managerial competences in planning, organizing and communicating, and the creative and analytical skills needed to drive innovation.  The Hospitality Management and Service Design degree programme focuses on developing these skills and on helping students to acquire the knowledge needed to succeed in a range of hospitality and service business sectors. In Laurea, we specialize in planning, developing and producing travel services, event management, and food & beverage business. One of the special features of the field consists of the ability to produce experiences and memories for the clientele. This also includes everyday practices by creating value for the customer as part of the service business logic.As a student, you will apply theoretical concepts to real-world cases and practical assignments. In particular, you will learn how to implement service design methods in innovation and development projects. This is accomplished through work on versatile team work led projects in development hubs with companies and on campus, such as the student restaurant BarLaurea. In BarLaurea students are able to understand the overall picture of restaurant operations and will acquire the developmental skills and professional competence needed in Hospitality Management.  International study visits will provide experience and understanding of the ever-growing international clientele. In addition to service business studies, the degree programme offers a wide range of studies in leadership, digitalization, communication and interaction, since the capability to lead work processes, network and understand the needs of customers is a core competence.Customer and user-centricity is essential to the studies. Students will also gain competences to operate successfully in the modern digitalized business environment. The ability to interpret data is a key skill to success in Hospitality Management. Knowledge Management is a core competence of future managers and experts.
