Separate applications are organized throughout the year for our various courses. Separate applications are usually organized for applicants who have previously completed studies at, for example, an open university of applied sciences, another university or a certain secondary education institution, or previous work experience in a certain field.To whom the programme is targetedThis programme will suit you well if:you have a previous degree in a non-IT field, and you want to upgrade skills and competencies in cybersecurity to stay competitive in a modern job marketyou are currently working in cybersecurity domain, but you don’t have a formal higher-education degreeyou have full time job, and you are willing to pursue a BBA degree in cybersecurity via distance learningyou are a fresh high-school graduate willing to pursue a BBA degree in cybersecurity via distance learningIn case you already have a degree, previous work-experience on BBA level jobs or cybersecurity related cerficates, you will have the chance of compensating part of the programme with credit transfers or competence demonstrations, effectively allowing you to speed-up your study time.Content and career perspectivesThis is a BBA programme with the opportunity to specialize in Cybersecurity. The programme is suitable for the fresh candidates who are planning to work in Cyber security domain and career changers or for the persons who are already working in the IT-domain and who want to deepen their competence in cybersecurity. Additionally, the structure of the programme has a mechanism for recognition of existing cybersecurity competence which enables academic accreditation and getting bachelor level degree in the IT domain.Our graduates typically work as security consultants, technical support specialists or security managers in private or public sector. Upon graduation you will have a holistic view on cybersecurity including cyber threats, cyber defense and information security management associated with the soft skills needed in the modern working environment.Independent and self-paced studiesThe programme utilizes online studies associated with campus based counselling sessions once a month. Studies has been designed to meet the needs of the students who prefer distance learning or want to achieve BBA degree while working. You will study remotely with the opportunity to interact with teachers, staff, and other students by using modern interactive online learning and communication platforms. Online webinars, workshops and campus based counselling sessions are typically organized at the evenings e.g. 16:00 o’clock Finnish time and you will get detailed scheduling when you start your studies. You can become a student regardless where you live: in Finland, EU, or any other country in the world.Practical and up-to-date contentThe programme content is connected to the cybersecurity frameworks provided by the most prominent associations including Comptia, ISC2 and ISACA. All teachers have a professional background from the business and IT industries. Laurea continuously co-operates with industry partners (e.g. AWS, FISC, Hoxhunt, Insta, Loihde, Microsoft, Nixu, Nokia, Palo Alto Networks, PwC and Splunk) to bring in the latest competencies and technologies into our courses.Guidance and support during the studiesA tutor teacher will be available to guide you throughout all your study-time with us. The tutor teacher will guide you in:kicking-off your studies so you can get up-to-speed smoothlymake a personal study-plan that fits your study and career objectivesfacilitating interaction with other staff members closely linked to guidance: Head of Student Affairs, (matters related to credit transfer, competence demonstrations, study progress, study entitlement) and the Student Affairs’ Office personnel (study documentation and certificates)You will have clear contact points during your studies. The study unit responsible teachers support your learning process in individual study units and your personal tutor teacher helps you plan your studies. The support and counselling processes apply modern asynchronous and synchronous online communication tools depending on the issue or topic being discussed. Additionally, you can have special support (e.g. health care or career services) if the issue cannot be solved with the study unit teachers or your personal tutor teacher.Employment and work placementsThe studies include practical training (approximately five months), which can be taken in one or two parts. The work placements are an important step towards employment, helping you further enhance your competence in an area of your interest. A work placement can be taken in Finland or abroad. Laurea has networked well with the cybersecurity domain and the students are informed timely when new working opportunities are available. In addition, Laurea offers Finnish language courses for the non-Finnish speakers and well-organized career support services for the students who would like to settle in Finland for longer time or permanently. If you are planning to build your future career in Finland, you have an opportunity to study Finnish -language, and utilize personal tutoring for career planning.Equipment needed to conduct the studiesYou will need to use your own personal computer with a good quality internet connection for smooth download and upload of digital content such as files, images and videos. Your computer should be equipped with a camera and headset allowing you to engage on on-line meetings. We will provide more specific information regarding software and other requirements on Laurea’s web site. In practice, both Windows and macOS platforms work well.Please note that Laurea does not provide equipment (e.g. personal computer) for students.
