What to cover
- Your name and where you are from.
- What you are studying or doing now.
- Why you are taking the test — the course or country you are aiming at.
- One genuine interest, briefly.
It is short, and it is heard by admissions staff rather than by a scoring engine. Clear and natural beats rehearsed and dense.
Use it as a warm-up
It is the only chance to hear your own voice at test volume before an item that counts. Use it to settle the microphone distance and your pace — both of which affect every Speaking item that follows.
Speak at a normal conversational distance from the microphone. Too close distorts; too far loses the ends of words, which is where the engine finds grammar.
