Malaysia student visa fee
What a Malaysia student visa costs, taken from the government's own published fee page. The application fee is rarely the whole cost, so the charges that sit beside it are set out below as well.

The fee, as published
No single flat fee — Malaysia charges a bundle, and the exact total depends on institution type, nationality and options chosen. As published on the EMGS application-fee calculator (visa.educationmalaysia.gov.my): EMGS processing fee MYR 150.80–MYR 1,728.00 depending on application type (new / renewal / mobility) and institution category (IPTS, IPS, IAC, IPTA, IPTP); eVAL (Standard Fee) MYR 159.00; Student Pass MYR 60.00; medical screening MYR 250.00 (public university clinic) / MYR 340.00 (standard) / MYR 350.00 (Sarawak); EMGS-linked health insurance MYR 498.00–MYR 644.00 depending on provider and plan; i-Kad MYR 50.00 (self-collect at EMGS) or MYR 60.60 (courier); entry-visa fee varies by nationality. The Immigration Department of Malaysia (imi.gov.my) separately publishes the Student Pass at RM60.00 and the dependant/guardian Social Visit Pass at RM90.00. For an India-specific published figure, the High Commission of India, Kuala Lumpur states EMGS charges "RM1,000/- (approximately Rs. 18,000) for each application. This fee is non-refundable even if admission is not secured or refused", with medical insurance, medical examination and visa fees adding approximately RM850 (about Rs. 15,000) in year one. Use the official EMGS calculator for your exact case, as published at visa.educationmalaysia.gov.my/student-visa/calculate-application-fees.
What the application fee does not cover
Almost every student visa route has costs beyond the application fee itself, and they are a material part of the budget rather than a rounding error.
- Health surcharge or insurance, which several countries require up front for the whole course length.
- Biometrics, where it is charged separately from the application.
- Document costs — attestation, notarisation, certified translations, courier.
- The financial requirement itself, which is money you must hold rather than spend, and is usually the largest number in the process.
- Dependant applications, each charged separately.
Before you budget from this page
- Check the date this page was last verified, printed at the foot.
- Open the official source linked there and confirm the current figure.
- Check whether your route — the specific visa subclass or category — carries the same fee.
- Add the surrounding costs above before deciding what the visa stage will cost you.
Visa fees are revised on government timetables rather than annual ones, and a figure that was right last quarter can be wrong this one. The date at the foot of this page is the honest limit of what we can tell you.
Fees — FAQs
2 questions
Application fees are generally not refunded on refusal. That is the usual position across student visa routes, and it is why getting the application right the first time matters more than the fee itself.
Yes, these fees are paid online during the application in nearly every route. Budget for the exchange rate and card charges on the day.
