About this programme
Digital Process Engineering (DPE) is a four-semester Master's degree programme aimed at Bachelor's graduates with a solid background in chemical or biochemical process engineering and a strong interest in the digital implementation of chemical and biochemical process engineering problems and their solutions. The basis of this Master's degree course is chemical process engineering, which deals with transforming raw materials and energy into products using chemical, mechanical, and biological processes. The term process engineering should not be confused with process technology, which is concerned with control, automation, and optimisation of production processes and is NOT the focus of the Digital Process Engineering Master's degree course. A total of 120 ECTS CPs must be acquired. The compulsory subjects are: Scientific computing Data visualisation Scientific machine learning Data analysis and design of experiments Modelling, simulation, and optimisation in process engineering Project: Computer science in process engineering The compulsory elective part of the programme can include lectures from the following focus areas: Reaction and fluid process engineering Particle process engineering Bioprocess engineering Thermodynamics The programme begins with a bridge semester in which any missing process engineering basics are worked through. Alternatively, you can carry out a 15 or 30 CP industrial internship during the bridge semester if you know all the relevant basics. In semesters two and three, compulsory modules, the compulsory elective modules of the focus areas, and other elective modules are taken. Semester four is reserved for the Master's thesis. Prerequisites
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Process Engineering or an equivalent foreign degree in a related field English certificate (GRE recommended) CGPA (cumulative grade point average): The Bachelor's grade shall be not lower than 2.4 in the German grading system (in general relates to "B" or "C" in the ECTS grading system) or equivalent. Sufficient knowledge in higher mathematics, chemistry, mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, measurement and control technology, process engineering (thermal, mechanical, chemical, biological) including laboratories, construction of pressure vessels and operation of chemical apparatus is expected. The required credit points or hours in the individual disciplines are published on the department website before each application period.
