Advanced and Computational Mathematics – International Master's Programme

The Advanced and Computational Mathematics Master's programme trains individuals to unlock their full potential, enabling groundbreaking achievements in both academic and practical working fields. Students prepare for an impactful career by mastering the mathematics that drives innovation in today's tech-driven world. The programme starts with a solid foundation in advanced mathematics. In the second semester, students gain expertise in one of three fields of specialisation: Advanced Pure Mathematics Computational Mathematics Data Sciences Additionally, students will participate in a seminar and complete their studies with a Master's thesis in their specialisation. Moreover, they will have the opportunity to learn languages, including mandatory German courses. Outstanding achievers may also qualify for the PhD programme in the Faculty of Mathematics, paving the way for careers in scientific research and academia. For more information, please visit the programme website. The curriculum extends over four semesters, during which you must acquire 120 ECTS credits. Throughout the programme, current topics in applied mathematics and pure mathematics are taught in comprehensive lecture series by internationally renowned scientists. All lecture topics are discussed in depth in tutorial classes, ensuring that you receive continuous feedback regarding your academic performance. Upon admission to the programme, you can already start an online course in your home country, which will be continued in Chemnitz and be credited accordingly. This approach ensures that you do not lose precious time in the event of delays in obtaining your student visa. During the first semester, you will gain a solid foundation in advanced mathematics (29 ECTS covered by four courses). Starting in the second semester, according to your personal interests, you will select your field of specialisation: Advanced Pure Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, or Data Science, where you will gain state-of-the-art expertise and earn at least 38 ECTS. In preparation for your Master's thesis, you will participate in a seminar (8 ECTS) during the third semester. Finally, during the fourth semester, you will write your Master's thesis (30 ECTS) on a subject from your field of specialisation under the guidance and supervision of a professor from the Faculty of Mathematics. In addition to courses in mathematics, you may earn up to 15 ECTS in language courses (5 ECTS per course). Upon completion of the programme, you will have German proficiency at an A2 level, which, depending on your background, will require you to obtain up to 10 ECTS in German courses. The degree of Master of Science (MSc) will be awarded upon successful completion of the programme. During the programme, oral exams will be taken at the end of each semester.
