Master of Science in Mathematics

MSc Mathematics – Master's Programme (TU Darmstadt) The English-taught Master's programme in Mathematics has a standard period of study of four semesters (two years). When applying, one of four fields of study must be chosen: 1. Mathematics Two advanced courses with one specialisation each must be chosen from the following seven research fields: Algebra Analysis Logic Numerical Analysis Optimisation Stochastics In the elective part, either a minor from the TU Darmstadt course catalogue or further mathematical Master's-level courses are selected. 2. Business Mathematics One of the following mathematical specialisations is chosen: Optimisation Stochastics The second specialisation comes from Economics. The mandatory minor is Computer Science. In the elective part, mathematical courses outside the chosen specialisation are selected. 3. Data Science Two data-focused mathematical specialisations are chosen from: Analysis Numerical Analysis Optimisation Stochastics The mandatory minor is Advanced Computer Science; extensive prior knowledge is required. 4. Interdisciplinary Mathematics  This field combines mathematics with a second subject. The mathematical specialisation is chosen from the following: Algebra Analysis Logic Numerical Analysis Optimisation  Stochastics The second, non-mathematical specialisation can be, for example, Computer Science, Physics, or Mechanical Engineering. The mandatory minor is typically based on the non-mathematical specialisation, but may vary. Interdisciplinary courses and the "Studium generale" are also part of the programme, offering opportunities for internships and non-mathematical courses. Qualifications upon graduation Graduates will be qualified to: classify recent research, present and reflect on mathematical issues, systematically solve mathematical problems, and apply expertise from other disciplines and engage in scientific discourse.
