About this programme

The Animation and Game Master of Arts programme qualifies students for leadership positions in the international media industry. In an inspiring research and development-oriented learning environment with excellent technical equipment, students acquire advanced skills and competencies related to the development and realisation of digital animations and games as well as animation and game research. They gain practical directorial experience by leading animation, game and virtual reality projects in the Animation and Game Bachelor's programme under the supervision of lecturers with a strong industry background. The Animation and Game Master's degree programme offers two optional specialisations: The "Creative Direction" specialisation integrates relevant subject areas such as art direction, game design, game experience design, animation cinematography and narrative design into a project-based learning scenario. Students acquire up-to-date methods in the areas of research, creative leadership and creative entrepreneurship, which enable them to develop and implement innovative creative visions. The "Creative Direction" specialisation qualifies students for creative leadership positions in the animation and games industry, for example as animation director, lead game designer, art director or creative producer.  The "Technical Direction" specialisation covers the technological dimensions of animation and game creation and production, such as: advanced technical art, advanced game programming, visual effects, technological pipelines and tools, and augmented and virtual reality technologies. It provides students with technological research and development methods as well as leadership and entrepreneurial skills. The "Technical Direction" specialisation prepares students for technical leadership positions in the animation and games industry, such as technical director, lead programmer or technical producer.
