About this programme
The objective of the MBA programme in "International Business with Regional Focus" is to educate students for management and leadership positions in international companies of all sizes and industries. Thus, the students can take their careers to the next level and/or give their careers a new direction. A dedicated focus is given to the specifics and practical aspects of doing business in an international setting. By choosing one of the offered focus regions, the students specialise in one business region and acquire competencies concerning the respective culture, communication and interaction patterns that are needed to successfully do business in and with that region. The programme takes three semesters and is organised into 12 modules plus the Master's thesis. Every module usually consists of two lectures that are related in content. The study group has a maximum of 25 students who come from countries all around the world, including Germany. The lectures are given completely in English by a well-balanced mix of university professors and experienced managers from a variety of international companies. Altogether, the curriculum ensures that the graduates of our MBA International Business are equipped with the comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge and skills that managers and leaders working for international companies need to be equipped with. In all classes, there is always a focus on business practice as well as on the specifics of doing business internationally. The curriculum covers business hard skills, personal skills and social soft skills as well as methodical skills. The MBA International Business programme at the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) is unique with respect to its study focus options. Unlike other programmes, students can choose one of the following focus regions: Europe Asia Latin America Depending on the chosen focus region, general language and business language courses in German (focus region: Western Europe), Mandarin (focus region: Asia) or Spanish (focus region: Latin America) are part of the curriculum. In the "Language Competence" module, students acquire general and business-specific language skills according to their chosen focus region. In the "Intercultural Management" module, students are introduced to organisational behaviour in general and specifically in a multicultural setting. Part of this module entails an off-site training. In the "Project Management" module, students learn about the research and scientific methodology needed for scientific projects as well as about project management skills needed for leading projects in business practice. The "Doing Business In and With the Focus Region" module consists of an approximately three-week stay at a partner university in the respective focus region. Students are familiarised with the history and the current economic situation of the region as well as with skills how to do negotiations, lead employees and develop business strategies specific for their region. The "Managing International Businesses" module introduces students to managing and leading organisations in today’s global business world, both from an outside-in and an inside-out perspective.
