About this programme
The Master's degree programme is application-oriented and imparts knowledge in the field of innovative development capabilities with respect to the complete life cycle of battery systems. It equips graduates with the skills to apply their knowledge on known and new problems and to independently acquire new knowledge and skills in the future. The goal is to acquire expert knowledge and to differentiate existing academic results as well as to identify practical problems and to have the ability to solve them. The students acquire the skills to judge scientific findings and to apply them in practice and do practical research themselves. The standard period of study is three semesters. Students can begin the programme in either the winter or summer semester. Each module generally carries five credit points (CP), with exceptions being the project work worth 10 CP and the Master’s thesis (25 CP). Part of the course takes place at the partner institution Kiel University (CAU) and at the Fraunhofer ISIT in Itzehoe. The programme can also be pursued alongside employment, which allows for an individual study plan regarding module attendance and examinations and may result in an extension of the total study duration. Prerequisites
(1) Admission to the Master’s programme “Battery Technologies” is granted to applicants who have completed a Bachelor’s degree in a) Electrical Engineering, b) Mechatronics, or c) Industrial Engineering – Electrical Engineering with a minimum grade of 2.99 (German grading scale). (2) Admission is also possible for applicants who have completed a first professionally qualifying degree in a closely related field with a minimum grade of 2.99. Closely related programmes are those comprising at least 120 credit points (CP) in fundamental core competencies in mathematics, physics, control engineering, electronics, computer science, digital technology, project management, materials science, low-level programming (e.g. in microcontroller technology, software development for engineering applications I, cyber-physical systems, automation technology, computer-aided tools, or similar areas). (3) If the previous Bachelor's degree comprises fewer than 210 CP but at least 180 CP, the missing competencies must be acquired subsequently. As a rule, a total of 300 CP should be achieved. The required competencies and the latest possible date for their completion will be communicated in writing to the students by the Examination Board after enrolment at the beginning of the programme. In all other respects, § 7 paragraph 7 no. 9 PVO applies. Remark: Bachelor's degrees obtained outside the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) are often assessed as equivalent to 180 CP. (4) Applicants holding a Bachelor’s degree obtained outside the Bologna area (i.e., outside the European Higher Education Area) must additionally provide the following qualification proof: GRE test result with a minimum percentile of 64% in the Quantitative Reasoning section. No exceptions can be made. (5) Language requirements: see below (6) Application via uni-assist is also required if the applicant has additionally obtained a Master's degree from an institution within the EHEA. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit all relevant documents as these may help compensate for competencies missing from the Bachelor's degree.
