The phrases that carry it
| Function | Say |
|---|---|
| Suggesting | Wie wäre es, wenn …? / Wir könnten … |
| Agreeing | Das finde ich auch. / Gute Idee. / Da stimme ich dir zu. |
| Disagreeing politely | Das sehe ich anders. / Da bin ich nicht sicher. |
| Asking their view | Was meinst du? / Wie siehst du das? |
| Compromising | Vielleicht könnten wir …? / Wie wäre es stattdessen …? |
| Deciding | Also, dann machen wir das so. / Abgemacht. |
*Was meinst du?* is the single most valuable phrase here. It demonstrates interaction, hands your partner a turn, and gives you a few seconds.
What is actually marked
- Do you respond to what your partner said, or deliver a prepared point regardless?
- Do you agree and disagree with reasons rather than single words?
- Do you move the conversation towards a decision?
- Do you give your partner room, or talk over them?
Dominating the exchange costs marks. So does going silent. The target is a genuine two-way conversation that reaches a conclusion, which is why practising this with another learner matters more than practising alone.

Add a detail — the time, the cost, who will do what. Reaching a decision and then elaborating it is fine.
Ask them questions. Drawing them in is interaction, and it is what is being assessed.
