Singapore student visa — step by step

Student's Pass (STP), applied for through ICA's SOLAR / Student's Pass Online Application & Registration e-Service. For visa-required nationals such as Indian passport holders, the entry visa is embedded in the In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter — as published at ica.gov.sg/reside/STP/apply

As published by ICA: "A non-refundable S$45 processing fee is payable" at application, plus, on approval, "A S$60 issuance fee for Student's Pass" and "S$30 for Multiple Journey Visa (if applicable)" payable online before the pass is issued. Payment by Visa/MasterCard/AMEX, internet banking or PayNow. Institution/university administrative charges are separate and set by the school, not by ICA.

Varies by institution type, as published at ica.gov.sg. Institutes of Higher Learning (NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SIT, SUSS, polytechnics) and Foreign System / Privately-Funded Schools: "The processing time for application is within one week (and within two weeks if Visa is required) (excluding the date of submission)" — Indian nationals are visa-required, so the two-week guide applies. Approved Private Education Institutions (PEIs): new applications "within one month (and within two weeks for an EduTrust-accredited PEI)", with renewals/transfers "within one week". ICA states some applications may take longer. Note ICA also requires you to apply "at least two months and not more than three months before your course begins".

No official minimum. ICA's SOLAR application asks applicants to declare their financial support / finances, but ICA does not publish a fixed proof-of-funds or maintenance figure for the Student's Pass on ica.gov.sg. Figures circulated online (e.g. "S$15,000–S$30,000 in the bank") are consultant or institution guidance, not an ICA-published requirement. Your Singapore institution may set its own financial-guarantee or fee-deposit rules (some PEIs operate a Fee Protection Scheme), so confirm the amount with the school in writing.

Governed by MOM (Ministry of Manpower), not ICA. Student's Pass holders enrolled at an MOM-approved institution are exempt from a work pass and may work during term time for "a maximum of 16 hours a week", or do an institution-arranged industrial attachment/internship that counts towards graduation. During scheduled vacations, eligible Student's Pass holders aged 14 and above may work without an hours restriction. Two separate MOM approved-institution lists apply — one for vacation work and a shorter one for term-time work — so the 16-hour term-time right does NOT extend to every school. There is no routine visa interview at a Singapore High Commission or consulate for the Student's Pass — the application is fully online through ICA's SOLAR e-Service and there is no published interview stage. Biometrics ARE required: ICA states that "The completion of formalities for the Student's Pass is strictly by appointment", and thumbprints and photograph are enrolled at the ICA Services Centre in Singapore after you arrive, or at an offsite enrolment session your school arranges. ICA may separately request clarifications, additional documents or an interview at its discretion, and will notify you through the e-Service.
