General Course Programme Our course programme builds on three mandatory core modules in the winter semester. In subsequent semesters, you can choose your electives. If you choose a specific set of courses within a particular specialisation, you will receive a certificate that documents your expertise in that field. Finally, students are required to complete a research seminar and write a Master's thesis in the fourth semester. Click on our course overview for more details. Our course load accounting unit is ECTS credits. To complete the MSc in Economics programme, you have to obtain a total of 120 ECTS credits. Each mandatory lecture has a credit load of 10 ECTS, the other courses and seminars usually deliver 6 ECTS. The Master’s thesis comprises 24 ECTS. The compulsory courses add up to 30 ECTS. So does the compulsory research module consisting of the research seminar and the Master’s thesis. This leaves you with a total of 60 ECTS that you can fill with elective courses. Within your electives, you can choose to complete a specific set of courses within one of the following specialisations: Macroeconomics & Finance Data Science & Microeconomics Real Estate, Regional & Trade At least 36 ECTS credits of your electives (usually six courses) must be from our core economics study programme. The remaining 24 ECTS may be filled with additional courses offered by the Faculty of Economics and Business, with an internship, or with language or IT courses that are available to all students at the University of Regensburg. There are, however, limits on how many ECTS credits can be imported from such formats within the MSc in Economics study programme. Honours Elite Study Programme Highly motivated students are encouraged to apply for our honours programme. Our honours programme offers a mandatory exchange semester additional mentoring by professors and professionals special interdisciplinary seminars soft skill courses and methods training ample opportunities for exchange with practitioners through exclusive workshops and excursions the one-week honours academy, which takes place abroad Real Estate Economics Specialise in real estate economics and work with institutions, central banks or real estate firms. Jointly with the faculty members of the renowned International Real Estate Business School (IREBS), we offer a specialisation in real estate, macroeconomics and finance that is unique in the German university landscape. Mandatory Course Work Our mandatory courses in Advanced Microeconomics, Dynamic Macroeconomics and Methods in Econometrics are offered in the winter semester. They cover the entire first semester. We therefore recommend to start the programme in the winter semester, but applying for a start in the summer semester is possible as well. Electives You can take elective classes as well as research seminars in both the summer and the winter semester (semesters two to four). Master's Thesis You can start working on your Master's thesis any time throughout the year.
