About this programme

The topics of process monitoring, fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant systems are becoming increasingly important in research and industrial applications. This is due to the constantly growing requirements for high system reliability and availability. In the context of Industry 4.0 in particular, there are innovative applications in control and regulation technology that go beyond traditional areas of application such as mechatronics. These include distributed systems and working methods that have emerged through the merging of traditional specialist areas. The Master's degree course of study builds on the knowledge acquired in the Bachelor's degree course of study in Electrical, Electronic and Communications Engineering. Students deepen their knowledge of automation and control engineering methods and their implementation in computer-aided systems. A further focus is on the mathematical modelling and simulation of automated processes. Through interdisciplinary courses in the natural sciences, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and computer science, students acquire the necessary knowledge to work on challenging problems and solve complex automation tasks. The career prospects for graduates are diverse. Possible areas of employment include design, planning and project management in fields such as automation technology, process technology, production control, energy technology, building control technology, traffic control and automation in the automotive and aviation industries. The programme is ideal for anyone who wants to specialise in future-oriented automation and control engineering technologies and gain a foothold in an innovative professional field. All Master's degree programmes follow the same structure and consist of core subjects, advanced theories, profile subjects, elective courses and the Master's thesis. The mandatory core subjects are obligatory for all students and provide in-depth knowledge in the specific discipline. The subjects of a profile specialise in a specific area within this discipline. The elective courses can be chosen out of any discipline in engineering. The overall language of instruction for each Master's degree programme is 50% English and 50% German. In both industry and universities, there is a worldwide and long-term need for engineering graduates. The ISE programme corresponds to global market conditions and was designed to match the job requirements for graduates. It particularly offers subjects of specific international relevance. Apart from the technical qualification, the linguistic and cultural aspects offer special advantages for graduates in a global job market and qualify them for responsible positions in international companies or for a continuation of their academic career, e.g. when heading for a PhD.
