Master of Science in Chemical Biology

The Master's degree programme in Chemical Biology focuses on the molecular aspects of the life sciences with respect to the understanding of biological processes and their targeted chemical manipulation. In addition, modern methods of biotechnology and bioanalytics as well as their applications are taught. In compulsory elective lectures, laboratory courses, and seminars in chemical biology, cell biology, and medicinal chemistry, students deepen their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in research-relevant areas. Students can also take courses in chemistry, other natural sciences, or in other fields. In addition, students will choose a major subject in which they actively participate in ongoing research and demonstrate their ability to conduct independent research during the Master's thesis. The completion of the Master's thesis, which is scheduled to last six months, marks the end of the degree programme. The Master's degree programme in Chemical Biology consists of eight compulsory elective lecture modules, two compulsory seminars, four advanced compulsory elective laboratory courses, one research project, and the Master's thesis (including its defence). The compulsory elective lectures can be chosen from the examination subjects of medicinal chemistry, molecular cell biology, chemical biology, and chemistry as well as from various other natural sciences and additional courses in accordance with the regulations.
