About this programme
This is an integrated Master's programme in mathematics and computer science. Several areas of contemporary research fields require excellent skills both in mathematics and in computer science. The Master's programme offers the possibility to specialise in a research area lying at the interface of mathematics and computer science. Three professors have joint affiliations in both departments. Saarbrücken is one of the first places in Germany where one can study in such an integrated Master's programme. It has an excellent research reputation both in computer science and mathematics. The renowned Max Planck Institutes for Computer Science and Software Systems as well as the German Center for Artificial Intelligence and CISPA are on the campus, and they create a stimulating international research environment. Research fields include the following, among others: Free Probability and Random Matrices Quantum Groups Quantum Information Functional Analysis Mathematical Statistics Stochastic Differential Equations and Financial Mathematics Partial Differential Equations and Variational Calculus Optimisation Algebra, Algebraic Geometry and Geometric Group Theory Artificial Intelligence Computational Biology Computer Linguistics Computer Graphics Algorithms and Data Structures Complexity Theory Computer Networks Image Processing and Computer Vision Information and Database Systems Logic Programming Languages Computer Architecture Security, Cryptography and Privacy Machine Learning Human Computer Interaction Formal Methods Each student has to take 30 ECTS from courses (core lectures, advanced lectures) from mathematics and computer science and one seminar (7 ECTS). The choice of the courses is free. Students can specialise in the area of mathematics and computer science in which they are interested.

Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in mathematics and computer science or a related Bachelor's degree. If you have studied mathematics with a minor in computer science or computer science with a minor in mathematics, you may qualify for admission depending on the content and scope of your minor. A preliminary admission can also be given under the condition that you have to pass certain missing lectures from the Bachelor's programme. The final decision on the admission and potential extra requirements is done by the examination board.
