If so, then our Master's programme in Molecular Biotechnology is perfect for you. Our comprehensive programme covers everything from gene editing and recombinant DNA technology to protein engineering and synthetic biology. Experts from academia and industry prepare you for a career in research, development, production and commercialisation of biotech products. You'll graduate with a strong background in molecular biology and understanding of ethical awareness and regulatory issues surrounding biotechnology. Our programme provides plenty of opportunities for hands-on research, including collaborations with industry partners and internships experience in state-of-the-art laboratories and research facilities. Join us to lead in the dynamic world of molecular biotech! The four-semester Master’s programme is divided into two phases and begins with advisory support even before the semester starts. First and second semesters: In the first semester, all students complete an advanced module on molecular biotechnology, covering key biomolecules and core concepts from academic and industrial perspectives. You will also take three methods modules in (i) bio/chemical analytics, (ii) cell engineering, and (iii) computational biology, each including two hands-on workshops in modern laboratory techniques. In the second semester, experts from industry teach biotechnological production, from target identification to clinical trials, regulatory approval, and quality control. You will also study bioprocess engineering and gain business and legal basics for developing biotech products in collaboration with MAFEX (the Marburg Institute for Innovation Research and Start-up Support). Third and fourth semesters: You will complete internships at universities, research institutions, or in industry in Germany or abroad, or participate in competitions such as iGEM. The programme concludes with an experimental Master’s thesis in molecular biology.

Prerequisites
To be eligible for the Molecular Biotechnology programme at Marburg University, applicants must have a C1 level proficiency in English, as all teaching and exams are conducted in English. Applicants will be evaluated based on their Bachelor's degree grades, as well as the number of credit points earned from courses taken in biological sciences (a minimum of 30 ECTS) and supporting sciences such as physics and mathematics (a minimum of 12 ECTS). Additional subject-specific qualifications documented by successfully completing relevant advanced and/or final modules in bioscience and biotechnology will allow students to earn extra credits. In addition to providing academic transcripts, applicants must also submit a CV and a letter demonstrating their subject-specific aptitude for the programme. Applicants who meet the admission score level will be invited to participate in an interview, during which a committee will make the final admission decision.
