Master's in European Economic Studies (MSc in EES)

The EES Master's programme is an economics degree programme with a strong emphasis on international and interdisciplinary orientation. This is evident through language training in foreign business languages, a possible stay abroad (not obligatory), three double-degree agreements (more are planned), and a wide range of electives in related disciplines that students can (but are not required to) choose from. For example, modules from business administration, political science, business informatics, sociology, or law can be selected. Of course, economics subjects are also an essential part of the programme. The focus ranges from International Economics, Economic Policy, or Migration Studies to Public Economics. Economics modules in the elective area include, for example: Financial Engineering and Systemic Risk International Monetary Economics The Economics of Inequality Microeconomics of Education Incentives and Behaviour Financial market dynamics Political Economics Industrial Economics Games and Contracts Computational Macroeconomics The two-year Master's degree programme (120 ECTS) usually takes place entirely in Bamberg. Teaching consists of a balanced mix of lectures and seminars. Instruction in one or two foreign business languages (12 ECTS each) is provided in small seminar groups throughout the first four semesters. One of these languages can be business German for students with a foreign school leaving certificate. Apart from the compulsory economics and methodological programme in the first semester (24 ECTS), the programme provides flexibility regarding content and organisation of studies. The economics modules (36-60 ECTS) offered are based in the fields of international economics, empirical microeconomics, public economics, economic policy, economic theory, and applied economic research as well as labour, regional and migration studies. The individual academic profile can be supplemented by classes in related economics and social science disciplines (up to 24 ECTS) or courses taken during an optional semester abroad. This supports the interdisciplinary aspect and extends the chosen area of the main focus, thereby making good use of the large potential of the curriculum available at the Faculty for Social Sciences, Economics, and Business Administration at the University of Bamberg. The Master's thesis (24 ECTS) has to be written over the course of five months at the end of the programme.
