Six taught modules cover data science principles, computational and statistical methods, Python and R programming, advanced databases, cloud computing and machine learning, followed by a major independent project that can specialise in areas such as business or health analytics. The course emphasises real-world application and industry-relevant practice. Entry normally requires a minimum 2:2 honours degree in a quantitative subject such as computer or information science, engineering, mathematics or statistics. Other qualifications and relevant work experience are considered individually. What the fee covers: the international full-time rate for the first year of study. Fee year: 2026-27. Before you budget: the page prints 'Full International Fee: £21,500' for 2026/27, stated as the first-year fee, against a UK rate of £11,250 falling to £10,050 in 2027/28. It is one year full-time with a September 2026 start at the Newcastle City Campus. Northumbria lists several separate Data Science MSc variants — 12-month, 16-month and 'with Advanced Practice' — under different course codes, and this fee applies only to the 12-month dtfdsc6 route, so do not carry it across to the others. A quantitative first degree is required; this is not a conversion course.
