About this programme
Our Community Educator programme trains students to become specialists in youth and community work with a strong focus on wellbeing expertise, sustainable thinking, and future-oriented approaches. The programme is grounded in experiential and activity-based learning methodologies and seeks to support the growth, development, participation, and empowerment of individuals, groups, and communities. At the core of the programme is an understanding of the processes that foster wellbeing and inclusion, combined with sustainable and future-oriented practices in youth and community work. These are put into practice through cooperative pedagogical approaches and collaborative projects carried out in close partnership with local communities, organizations, and institutions. Learning takes place in diverse and authentic learning environments and the wider community, complemented by excursions and activities in urban nature. The programme incorporates bilingual education approaches, including 15 ECTS of Finnish language studies and action-oriented bilingual instruction integrated throughout the curriculum. The programme offers a language learning pathway for migrant and international students to help students develop B1 level Finnish proficiency, the level often required by public sector employers in Finland. The programme is ideal for both international students and for domestic students wanting to learn and work in an international group and who aspire to pursue international roles in the future. The degree programme equips graduates with a broad range of professional competencies across the diverse field of youth and community work. Career opportunities can be found in sectors such as youth work, NGOs, education and training, wellbeing services, and community development, both nationally and internationally.
