About this programme
Who has more than whom, and why? What are the costs and benefits of different environmental policies to deal with global warming? What are the causes and effects of unemployment? Throughout its history, economics has sought to understand how the world works and create an environment where individuals and nations thrive. It is an exciting discipline for students interested in politics, history, international affairs and consumer behaviour – while not forgetting logic and mathematics. To find out more about economics as a subject matter, check out the free online textbook, The Economy, by the Core team, that we use in our first-semester course. We also provide a free online course, Talouskurssi.fi, in Finnish for secondary school students. After completing the Bachelor's Programme in Economics, you will have:A strong understanding of economic theory. Understand and interpret real-world phenomena in the light of economic theories.A comprehensive toolkit for data analysis. Strong analytical skills in economics combined with programming and econometric skills.Systematic approach & critical thinking. A systematic approach to complex societal questions and economic phenomena.A solid foundation for further education. Students admitted to the Bachelor's Programme in Economics will automatically be eligible to continue to the Master's Programme in Economics or to other Master's Programmes at the Aalto University School of Business (according to transfer regulations). The Department of Economics also has a strong track record of helping students to enter some of the most prestigious graduate programmes abroad.
