Modal particles carry attitude
German loads attitude into small words that look skippable — doch, ja, wohl, eben, halt, zwar. At B2 and C1 these frequently carry the writer's stance, which is exactly what the harder questions ask about.
A sentence with *wohl* is hedged; one with *doch* is pushing back against something assumed. Learners who skip these read the facts correctly and miss the attitude question.
